Marisa Perez-Diaz is a PhD student at the University of Texas at San Antonio in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Additionally, she has been a Texas State Board of Education District 3 member since 2013. In this elected office, she has served as vice chair of the Committee on School Initiatives, Committee on School Finance/Permanent School Fund, and a leading voice in the fight to approve and implement Mexican American Studies and African American Studies courses for high school credit in Texas. Furthermore, Marisa has served as a district-level administrator in several Texas school districts. Her research and advocacy center on building an equitable education for all students.
