Phillip D. Grant, Jr. is an assistant professor of educational research at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia. His research focuses on postsecondary preparation, recruitment, enrollment, persistence, and completion for rural students in the United States. Phillip is currently working with colleagues to bring enhanced STEM opportunities to rural schools in the West Georgia region. Additionally, he is completing a grant with the University System of Georgia to bring affordable textbook options to graduate students in the College of Education. In his work, Phillip draws from his own experience as a rural first-generation student in West Alabama, who eventually attended his state’s flagship university.
